The Big Four

Sure, you know what they are because you hear me preach about them, over and over. You agree they're important but lack the intestinal fortitude to put your gambling forays at the feet of the Big Four which is:

(1) Bankroll
(2) Knowledge of the Game
(3) Money Management
(4) Discipline

BANKROLL

The amount of money you should set aside each week for Sports Betting. It should be cash that you have available before you make your wagers. I. M. Madork has $27 in his wallet and zippo in his closed out bank account. Yet he bets $100 a game, figuring a few wins will cover the bets he intends to make later on in the week. I. M. Madork is a dork. Don't discount Bankroll it is the beginning.

KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME

This does not mean that you know the zip code of every player in the eastern conference of the NBA, or the first name of every guy in the American League who is cheating on his wife. It is knowledge of the match ups and present trends of the teams in the game you intend to bet on. Knowledge is important but not the key part of the Big 4.

You wouldn't ask a first grader to explain the Theory of Evolution, so I don't expect you to try and pick the winner of a game between two teams you know nothing about.

In fact, the first grader gets my nod as having a better chance of completing his Thesis than you have of picking the winner. You smirk but it's the truth.

MONEY MANAGEMENT

Far and away the key to successful gambling. They'll be tons of chapters on this subject, but here it is in a nutshell: Money Management is "what you bet after a win and what you bet after a loss." That's it that's Money Management!!!!

DISCIPLINE

Cuts, brains, logic, intelligent approach, you name something hard to do and Discipline is what is lacking. It's rough to cut losses, accept small wins, pass on betting certain games, bet small amounts and have the Discipline it takes to do those things. It will save you money and that's a big key to being a successful player. Do you have Discipline? You better have perfect Discipline. A lot of you nodded that you do. We'll see.

That's the Big 4. That's the four most important things you gotta bring to battle. Having one or two of them is not enough. Having three of them is definitely not enough either.

I am the best player there is. I have all 4 and follow them religiously. Even with all four parts safely tucked in my brain, what chance do I have of winning???

The answer is 50 50 no more. Even with all these facets, my chances of winning is NEVER better than 50 50. Think about it!!
