After you decide on the amount of money you're gonna put at risk on a given day, you face the dilemma of breaking down the amount you'll put on each game.
In the Knowledge section of the book, we'll cover Parlays, Teasers, Round Robins, and Money Left bets. They are utilized for the more aggressive player going for bigger returns, and many times for the player with a small Bankroll cutting his losses by shooting for a 3 or 4 team Parlay.
Naturally, his chances of winning diminish as he adds teams, but his potential loss of capital is curtailed because his risk is small in the form of dollars. Let's say you zero in on 3 games that struck your fancy and all of them are going to be flat bets. In other words, no Round Robins or Parlays or exotic wagers, just flat out flat bet. Here are some of your choices based on a $200 daily Bankroll: First option: a) $100 Seattle/Denver game. b) $ 50 Giants/Rams game. c) $ 50 Jets/Miami game. Second option: a) $75 Giants/Rams game. b) $75 Jets/Miami game. c) $50 Seattle/Denver game. Another choice: a) $100 Jets/Miami game. b) $75 Giants/Rams game. c) $25 Seattle/Denver game. Another option: a) $50 Giants/Rams game. b) $50 Seattle/Denver game. c) $50 Jets/Miami game. d) $50 Game at night. Conservative move: a) $50 Jets/Miami game. b) Hold up betting on middle and late games until outcome is reached with Jets/Miami game. With $200 and six early games, six middle games, and one night encounter, the options go through the roof. The key is not exceeding the amount of money you allocate for a given day. The temptation to break the rules of Discipline and exceed the amount of your ready capital will bring you back to earth with a thud. This lack of Discipline will ruin you when you finally hit that eventual dry spell; I've given you several options of plays using just $200 and three games. Multiply the amount of options I left out, based on varying degrees of amounts of money and adding more games to the mix, and you've got more decisions to make than my friend, Homer Bust. Homer Bust snuck out one Friday night, had to be home by midnight or get his jaw busted by his wife, and finds himself in the parlor of Madame Bondoux, the Local harbored or loose women. Homer is confronted by six blondes, three redheads, eight brunettes, and two bald babes. He's gotta make his choice quickly and be home by twelve or face the consequences. That's a tall order, with so many choices. But that's what you're up against when dividing your Bankroll into the number of games you like. Just for smiles, write on a piece of paper what would do with these 3 games. See if it agrees with my Theories when we reach the Money Management section. Be aware you cannot be wrong in what you decide, but I know exactly what I'd do with the $200, based on the fact that the 3 games I picked all started early. It would be $75, $75, $50! Three flat bets with, his highest amount on the games I liked the most. Don't discount this chapter as being unimportant. The amount you allocate and the method you use to spread your money has a strong bearing on how you can cut losses and open the door for heavier wins. Incidentally, don't wait until the day of the games to decide how you will make your choice of bets. Decide ahead of time. Homer Bust couldn't make up his mind on that Friday night and finally headed home around 2 a.m. without making a choice. His hesitancy cost him and the heavyweight champion in his house lowered the boom. Get some Discipline in your choices and your Money Management. It'll save you money, plus for some of you ... less wear and tear on your jaw. © Copyright 2005 John Patrick's material. It may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
